“Getting Leathered – Turnover Soars for Hull Based Family Business During Pandemic”

A local family-based business has rapidly expanded during the pandemic and seen sales soar since leaving the EU, increasing turnover by over £50,000 in 2020 compared to the previous 12 month period of 2019.

One of the founding directors, Richard Hutchins of the Leather Repair Company, based in Hull but with franchises across the UK and Europe said.

“Lockdown has been so hard on so many companies. But the Leather Repair Company has seen its biggest growth since the company began in 1991 in a garden shed with £50 and a passion for all things leather. Sales for leather care and restoration products have gone through the roof as people are at home during lockdown 1 and 2, people are repairing and cleaning items like crazy, restoration works have fallen by over £60,000 compared to the previous year, but online leather care products sales have soared, pushing the company turnover to £50,000 higher than the previous year despite the huge drop in repairs and restoration work”

Leather repair Company has expanded to Brunei, Israel and Finland during the pandemic putting immense pressure on the company to meet demands, the two owners Richard Hutchins and Carolynne Hutchins stepped up to meet these demands while all other staff where on furlough, Richard and Carolynne delivered with fantastic results, working day and night to meet demands and supply clients all around the world.

Its not all been plain sailing, shortages of bottles were a major issue for the company having to adapt and change packaging overnight to keep up supplies, but the company delivered as promised.

The company now has its sights set on Norway, Sweden and Denmark as the company moves to the next level of expansion, with plans to see the Hull based family business turnover increasing to well over £1 million per year.
